Mrs. Rebecca McLaughlin Hines, the daughter of the late Mr. John and Mrs. Bertha M. Ellerbe McLaughlin was born on March 1, 1953 in Scotland County, North Carolina. She departed this earthly life to eternal rest early Saturday morning, January 6, 2018 in her home.
Rebecca attended school in the Scotland County School System and later became an employee of Piedmont Poultry, where she later retired. On April 16, 1972, she was united in Holy Matrimony to John D. Hines and to this union three children were born. She confessed Christ as Lord of her life and joined the Prospect AME Zion Church in Shannon, North Carolina. There she was a faithful member until her health began to decline; serving on the Usher Board, Kitchen Committee, Stewardess Board and always willing to be a lend a helping hand!
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha Ellerbe McLaughlin; her husband, John D. Hines; her step-granddaughter Vivian Buie; and her siblings Henry McLaughlin and Bertha McLaughlin.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2pm at Prospect AME Zion Church in Shannon, NC with Rev. Larry McQueen, Eulogizing and burial follow at the Bridges Grove AME Zion Church Cemetery in Shannon, NC.
She leaves to cherish her fondest memories: three children: Ronnie (Lilly) Hines of Shannon, NC; Evette Hines of Laurinburg, NC; Becky (Tony) Brooks of Fayetteville, NC; Three step-children: James (Hazel) Hines of Rex, NC; Annie Mae Buie and Margaret Pearson both of Red Springs, NC. Also survived by her three grandchildren: Allen Henegan of the home; Queenette Henegan of Laurinburg, NC and Kathy Locklear of Maxton, NC; 13 additional grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie McLaughlin of Prospect, NC; and a sister Virginia Haywood of Lumberton, NC and a special friend Joseph Ray; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
