Mrs. Shirley M. McMillan, 65 of 723 E. Dogwood St. Saint Paul’s, North Carolina, transitioned from Earth to Glory on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, North Carolina.
Funeral arrangements are as follow:
Viewing will be Friday, September 25, 2020 at the LE Floyd Funeral Home in Red Springs, North Carolina from 2pm-7pm and the Homegoing Service will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 2pm at McKinnon Graveyard on McKinnon Road in St. Pauls, North Carolina.
Shirley Viola McKinnon McMillan, affectionately known as “Mac,” departed this life on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, North Carolina. She was born July 16, 1955 to the late Rosetta McKinnon and the late Chester McCaskill in Robeson County, North Carolina.
As a child and young adult she joined the Little Marsh Chapel AME Zion Church and was a member of the LMC Gospel Choir. She attended Eastside High School and graduated from St. Pauls High School with the Class of 1973. She was a PCA Nurse, Med Tech, and often served as a Supervisor. She worked at Evergreen Rest home, Green Manor, Lumberton Assisting Living, Open Arms in Raeford, and RainTree, currently employed at Cromartie Spring Village Rest home in St. Pauls, North Carolina until her health began to decline.
Shirley loved working with the elderly, she had a passion for working with people. She enjoyed cooking and being around crowds of people. She loved the LA Lakers and especially her favorite player, the late Kobe Bryant. Never meeting a stranger, Shirley will be truly missed.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: Rosetta McKinnon and Chester McCaskill; grandmother, Abbie McCaskill; two brothers: Alexander McKinnon and Eric A. McCaskill; a sister, Melissa McCaskill; two grandchildren: Quillian Green and LaSheca Caldwell; an aunt, Marglean Hale; an uncle, Fred McCaskill; and a nephew, Willie Johnathon Robinson.
Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memories: her stepmother, Susan J. McCaskill of St. Pauls, North Carolina; four children: Shonteron McNeill (Shawn) of St. Pauls, North Carolina; Bridgette Green (Lawrence) of Wilmington, North Carolina; April Burch (O’Neal) of St. Pauls, North Carolina; and Omar McMillan (Samantha) of the home. Five sisters: Marilyn McCaskill of High Point, North Carolina; Morticia McCaskill and Maranda McCaskill both of St. Pauls, North Carolina; Gretchen Cherry (Bruce) of Hope Mills, North Carolina; Gaynelle McKinnon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Two brothers: Gregory McCaskill of St. Pauls, North Carolina and Larry McKinnon of Lumberton, North Carolina; an uncle, Nelson Hawkins (Shelby Jean) and a special aunt, Catherine Lewis of St. Pauls, North Carolina. Thirteen grandchildren whom she loved dearly: NyQueshia McNeill, Veronica Malloy, Shakerah Gilchrist, Raeshia McKellar, Dionquay McKellar, Jalil Jenkins, Donte Green, Diaoshia McMillan, Sharif McMillan, Kaliyah Sykes, Omaryah McMillan, Omond McMillan, Tamia McRae, and Justice McMillan. Fifteen great-grandchildren: Jakota McKellar, Jakoba McKellar, Liyanah Sampson, Karalyna Sampson, Jada Morrison, JaZariya Morrison, ZyQuez Stackhouse, JaQuan Stackhouse, Te’niya Scriven, Carter Johnson, Camden Johnson, Jalen Glover, Essence Glover, Imari McMillan, and Zayden Buie. A special daughter, Carolyn Lewis of Parkton, North Carolina; two special friends: Bettye McNeill and Alene C. Wright both of St. Pauls, North Carolina; and four special cousins: James Johnson, Sheby Hale, Margie Leach (Steve) and Antrell Hale and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
